Platteville Historical Encampment

What would homeschooling be like without field trips? This was a great one--the weather was about as perfect as you can get. The boys and I have been to this Encampment about 2 years ago, but we learned a ton this time around too. Really, we could go every year and learn something new. This years favorite "booths" were the fur trader and the stationary store.
The woman who was so kind to answer many questions about writing and her "stationary store" in the 1700's was a gem. She totally was in character and got the children involved by asking them a lot of questions. She pretended not to know what they meant when they mentioned WalMart or computers--it was great and apparently very inspiring to Logan.
He has been writing letters and sealing them with wax from one of my candles. He now wants an old fashioned writing pen and sealing wax for Christmas instead of a BB gun--wow!! Anything to promote writing at our house.
